Loto Ball – A Circus of Sound at the Hemlock

Remember the Phantom Limbs? They were my favorite live San Francisco band when they were still together and performing gigs. The lead singer was Loto Ball.

We’ve seen him naked. We’ve seen him pee in beer cups. We’ve caught him as he hurled his body into the crowd and we cried when the Phantom Limbs broke up.

A couple of band members went to Black Ice, but Loto Ball said, I’m out of here, I’m joining the circus, and he left San Francisco.*

Then he said, forget joining a circus, I’ll start a circus.*

Loto Ball solo, is kind of like the Phantom Liimbs, with extra credit. It’s like if Phantom Limbs joined the circus. The Loto Ball Show has even performed on a kid’s TV show…see the video below.

I cannot wait to see the show tonight. Let’s all welcome Loto Ball, shower him with kisses, maybe he’ll move back to San Francisco.

It is going to be crowded and hot in that back room tonight.

Reversible Eye Arts is proud to announce a split release with Ohio’s She He It records, due out on April 1st. One side of the 7” is Chicago’s no-wave synthpunk crooner Loto Ball, and the other side is Columbus noise-industrial group Paleface Destroyers. The two groups will celebrate this release with a concert at Reversible Eye (Chicago) on April 1st. They will be supported by Hot Garbage.

Loto Ball has been testing the limits with visceral, experimental punk music since the early 90s. Involving himself in various collaborations as an organist, trumpet player, noise punk frontman, and clown. [Mucca Pazza, Phantom Limbs, Circus Redickuless]

Paleface Destroyers www.myspace.com/palefacedestroyers are a two piece noise group from Columbus Ohio that started in early 2010. Fronted by former WWCD 101.1fm commercial radio dj Rudy Gerdeman with the help from long time friend Phil Francis on drums. Influenced by bands like Ministry,Big Black,and Phantom Limbs to list a few.They sing songs about love for breakfast,road rage,and native american cultures of Ohio.

Two dudes with keys and drums making junk punk that’s at times dancey and at other times stripped down space rock. Hot Garbage integrate elements of punk, industrial and no-wave into their own clusterfuck of noise pop.

This being Chicago, I’m sure Halloween is a week long event so let’s just include this with the festivities. Kind of drunken sounding, Loto Ball are weird without being weird for weird’s sake. There is a rhyme and a reason to their chaotic jazz meets organ drone meets the Munsters vibe and that reason seems to make you feel paranoid and off balance and claustrophobic and somewhat confused. But in a good way.
